Origins
Cinemóvil launched in 2020 as an experimental art project with a simple but urgent idea: to meet people where they are, transforming Miami’s neighborhoods into open-air cinemas and bringing films directly to communities that are too often left out of traditional cultural venues. Conceived as both a social artwork and a nonprofit cultural initiative, Cinemóvil fuses cinema, public space, and community gathering.
Since its founding, Cinemóvil has produced dozens of public activations across Miami-Dade county’s underutilized and accessible public spaces, reaching audiences right in their neighborhoods. Every screening is free and open to the public, bilingual where possible, and rooted in the diverse immigrant cultures that shape Miami, from the Caribbean to Latin America and beyond.
By staging screenings in parks, streets, and public plazas, Cinemóvil reimagines how cinema can function as a community resource, activating underused public space and creating moments of collective joy and reflection.
